One extra true story.

This morning my daughter came into the bathroom as I was brushing my teeth. It was not yet seven.

"What did the giraffe say to the elephant?," she wanted to know. "What?" I asked. "I don't know," she said. So we figured it out.

Then she ran into the kitchen to tell my mother, who has taken up residence in the back room and likes to do qigong in her underwear while I make breakfast.

"What did the giraffe say to the elephant?" she asked and then answered,

"How's it hanging, shorty?"

She began cackling, cracking herself up so hard she landed on the kitchen floor, where I stepped over her to fry an egg. I tripped. She and I lay on the kitchen floor laughing. We watched my mom as she raised and lowered her arms very slowly, breathing deeply, not missing a beat.
